A popular seaside resort situated on Sandown Bay on the Isle of Wight, Sandown is noted for its long expanse of sandy beach, its fine pier and good range of amenities. A tourist resort since Victorian times, Sandown became viable after the building of a railway line connecting it with Ryde and Ventnor. The famous pier features a large amusement centre and the promenade is lined with hotels and guest houses, many dating from Victorian times.

Sandown can be accessed via the A-3056 (A-3020) from Newport the A-3055 from Shanklin, most visitors to Sandown arrive by hovercraft or ferry from the mainland.
