Lying on Mount's Bay in the far west of the county of Cornwall, Penzance is a historic market town situated just ten miles from Land's End. Called "Pensans" in Cornish, the town was first mentioned in 1322, though it was probably settled long before this time, it received its first Royal Charter in 1512 and became a borough in 1614. Penzance has a long history of mining, fishing and agriculture and is a now a significant tourist destination, with a population of just over 20,000.
