Brighton Sussex together with neighbouring Hove was given city status in 1997, it has a population of about 156,000 and has long been a popular seaside resort on the south coast of England. It gathered popularity during the 18th and 19th centuries and was given the Royal stamp of approval by the Prince Regent of the time (later to be King George IV), who subsequently commissioned the building of the famous Brighton Pavillion.
Popular particularly as a day-trippers resort, Brighton has a 'Blue Flag' beach (pebbles) and a great range of facilities, there is a superb choice of hotels and rental accommodation in the area. Brighton can be accessed via the A-23 / M-23 from London, and by train from Victoria station.
